Winyan Wakhan Students Rise to the Moment at Regionals

Multiple

What an incredible time for our Winyan Wakhan students at the High Plains Regional Science Fair!

After putting in the hard work to reach regionals, our students truly showed up and showed out. While many felt nervous stepping into the competition, they faced those fears with courage and gave their best effort. Their willingness to push through and “do it scared” was powerful to witness and a testament to their growth.

We extend a special congratulations to McKenzie (6th grade), who earned 3rd place in the Social Sciences category. Her achievement reflects the dedication and effort that so many of our students brought to this experience.

With more than 450 students from 18 schools in attendance, our students represented their school and community with pride. Their presence and performance were a reflection of the strong support system behind them—from families to teachers—who have encouraged them every step of the way, from the local fair to the regional stage.

This moment would not have been possible without that support. Wóphila tȟáŋka to everyone who helped guide, encourage, and uplift our students throughout this journey.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue celebrating their work. Student projects will be displayed at the Oglala Lakota College Science Fair from April 22–29, offering another opportunity for the community to see their learning and creativity in action.

We also extend a heartfelt thank you to Nurse Nicki and Vanessa Plume for helping chaperone the event. Their support made a meaningful difference for our students throughout the day.

Moments like this remind us of the strength, courage, and potential within our students—and the power of community in helping them succeed.
