A familiar face is stepping into a new role at Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL): Thetna Weston has been named the school’s new principal. While her title is changing, Thetna is no stranger to the Maȟpíya Lúta community. Over the years, she has served in many roles—including office manager, teacher, and most recently, principal at Maȟpíya Lúta Middle School. Her leadership and dedication have left a lasting impact, and now the OLL community is excited to welcome her into this next chapter.

Superintendent Moira Coomes shared that Thetna was a natural fit for the role at OLL. She brings a deep understanding of the community, a clear commitment to educational equity, and a strong grounding in both Lakȟóta and Catholic values. Her experience as both an educator and instructional leader has consistently been marked by humility, cultural respect, and a student-centered mindset.
“Thetna demonstrates calm, collaborative leadership and a deep belief in the potential of every child,” said Coomes. “Her thoughtful approach to relationship-building and inclusive leadership style made her stand out during the selection process.”

As principal, Thetna will support and advance the mission of Our Lady of Lourdes by fostering an environment where Lakȟóta identity and Catholic faith are not only honored but woven into everyday learning. Moira noted that Thetna’s focus on listening and inclusion will help nurture strong connections with students, staff, and families alike.
“She is committed to creating a welcoming, stable, and joyful learning environment where students feel seen, supported, and inspired,” Coomes added. “Her leadership will strengthen community partnerships and ensure that Our Lady of Lourdes continues to be a place where every student thrives—academically, culturally, and spiritually.”
The Maȟpíya Lúta and OLL communities look forward to the leadership, heart, and vision that Thetna brings to this new role.
