The Heritage Center Sets Date for Grand Opening of New Building

Multiple

Mark your calendars and start making those travel plans! Join us on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., Maȟpíya Lúta will proudly open the doors to the new Heritage Center building—officially unveiled as the Čhatkú Arts Center, a Lakota word meaning “a place of honor.”

Čhatkú refers to the place of honor for the art housed inside—a space that uplifts and recognizes Native artists as cultural bearers, historians, and storytellers of our communities. While “a place of honor” might sound exclusive, in Lakota culture this space is reserved for visitors. In our tipi lodges, we offer the place of honor to our guests—so Čhatkú welcomes all who enter, inviting them to be lifted up in this sacred space.

The grand opening coincides with the 58th Annual Red Cloud Indian Art Show—the nation’s longest-running Native art exhibition of its kind—along with live performances, food trucks, tours, and community gatherings.

We can’t wait to welcome you to this once-in-a-generation celebration of art, culture, and community.
