Mahpiya Luta Students Achieves Outstanding Success at the 2024 Lakota Nation Invitational

Mahpiya Luta demonstrated excellence once again at the 2024 Lakota Nation Invitational (LNI), earning multiple championships and top honors across a variety of competitions. For the fourth consecutive year, the Mahpiya Luta Girls Basketball team claimed the LNI Championship, securing a decisive 62-31 victory over RC Christian. Here’s some other highlights:

  • Most Valuable Player: Jodene Big Crow-Hunter
  • All-Tournament Honors: Ashlan Carlow-Blount, Dottie Mesteth, and Mya Mills
  • Outstanding Coach: Matt Rama
  • Boy’s Basketball placed 7th

The Mahpiya Luta Cheerleading Team are Cheer Dance Team Champions for their exceptional dance performance. A special recognition goes to Tomee for earning an All-Tournament Cheer Award.

Mahpiya Luta’s skateboarding team delivered outstanding performances, winning multiple events.

  • Girls Individual Champion and Best Trick Winner: Michayla White Eyes
  • Boys Individual Champion and Third Place in Best Trick: Caden Pourier
  • Team Competition Winners: Mahpiya Luta Boys and Girls

The Mahpiya Luta High School Lakota Language Team claimed the Championship Title in the Lakota Language Bowl. Congratulation to Robert, Azilya, Jasinda, and Lianna and coach, Ashley Two Bulls

Mahpiya Luta’s Hand Game teams from multiple schools came home with awards in a day of intense matchups.

  • Tatanka Waste (High School) finished in second place after an impressive run.
  • Mahpiya Luta (High School) secured a third-place finish, demonstrating skill and perseverance.
  • Mahpiya Luta (Middle School) finished second place 
  • Wakhanyeza (Elementary) finished in third placed for their division

Mahpiya Luta wrestlers had a strong showing, with six athletes earning medals.

  • Silver Medalist: Braylon Conroy, who reached the championship match in his weight class.
  • Bronze Medalist: Azilya Iron Eyes.
