Mahpiya Luta Seniors Reflect and Reconnect

Multiple

The Mahpiya Luta High School senior class recently embarked on their Fall Senior Retreat — a time dedicated to stepping away from the usual routine, setting down phones, and connecting more deeply with themselves and one another. Set against the natural backdrop of Storm Mountain, the retreat offered space for reflection, laughter, learning, and community building.

Students Find Connection and Clarity

For many seniors, the retreat provided a rare opportunity to be fully present with their classmates. One student, Parker, shared that the best part was “bonding — being in close proximity without distractions like a phone, which helped socializing feel more natural.” Another student, Cecelia, appreciated the time spent in the cabins, saying, “It’s nice to be around the people I’ve grown up with.”

The activities encouraged both fun and introspection. Students enjoyed exploring nature, participating in group games, and engaging in meaningful discussions. Several noted the “Masks” activity as a standout moment — a workshop focused on understanding the emotional “masks” people wear in their daily lives. Ashlan reflected, “We learned about the different masks that people tend to wear and heard a personal story from our Instructor. It helped me realize that even though I’ve known my classmates for years, we’ve all had different experiences that shaped who we are today.”

When asked to summarize the retreat in one word, students responded with terms like “fun,” “chill,” “needed,” and “connect.” These simple yet powerful words capture the heart of the experience — a balance of relaxation, meaning, and togetherness.

Instructors Witness Growth and Leadership

Instructors attending the retreat echoed similar sentiments. They observed the seniors’ openness, participation, and genuine camaraderie. “There were so many moments of connection between the students,” Marie noted. “It was great to see them playing piano together, laughing over foosball, and engaging deeply in group discussions.”

Another Instructor, Patrick, remarked on the class’s resilience and leadership: “The seniors had a real chemistry that shone through in their small groups and informal activities. They adapted to the weather and gave themselves fully to the experience. I think this retreat helped them grow closer as a class and deepen their spiritual connections as they prepare for this formative year.”

Instructors also highlighted the “Masks” skit activity as particularly meaningful. It blended humor and honesty, allowing students to express themselves while reflecting on how people often hide their true emotions. As one Instructor put it, “It was a graced time of growth and deepening of connections among the senior class.”

A Meaningful Milestone

By the end of the retreat, both students and staff agreed — this was more than just a school trip. It was a moment of pause, reflection, and unity before the busy months ahead. The seniors left with a stronger sense of community and a renewed appreciation for one another — a fitting beginning to their final year at Mahpiya Luta High School.
