A group of Maȟpíya Lúta High School students recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to take part in the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, held November 15–17, 2025. The annual gathering brings together thousands of students from Jesuit and partner schools across the country to learn, reflect, and take action on issues of justice.
Throughout the weekend, our students joined peers in conversations on leadership, advocacy, and the work of building more just and compassionate communities. They also spent time exploring the Capitol, where they were welcomed by SD-Representative Dusty Johnson (R) for a brief tour.
During their visit, the students offered SD-Representative Johnson a meaningful gift—a handmade medicine pouch filled with buffalo hair, sage, and tobacco—as a gesture of respect and cultural exchange.
Their participation in the Teach-In reflects the strength, voice, and leadership of Maȟpíya Lúta’s young people as they step into their roles as future changemakers. Thank you to SD-Representative Johnson for welcoming our students and sharing his time with them during this memorable visit.
