Maȟpíya Lúta track athletes wrapped up an outstanding season at the 2026 SDHSAA State Track & Field Meet, held May 28–30 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls. Competing against the state’s best, our athletes represented their school and community with determination, resilience, and pride.
Senior Ashlan Carlow-Blount concluded one of the most decorated track and field careers in Maȟpíya Lúta history. Qualifying for three events—the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter hurdles, and 300-meter hurdles—Ashlan capped off an exceptional high school career competing among South Dakota’s best.
In the 200-meter hurdles, Ashlan delivered a personal-best performance while setting a new school record, narrowly missing a spot in the state finals in one of the meet’s most competitive events.
She followed that performance with a 5th-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, adding another state medal to her impressive résumé.
Ashlan then closed out her high school career in spectacular fashion in the 300-meter hurdles, posting another personal record, new school record, and a Class A State Runner-Up finish.
With those accomplishments, Ashlan graduates as a nine-time state medalist and nine-time school record holder, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of excellence. Her dedication, work ethic, and leadership have set a standard that will inspire Maȟpíya Lúta athletes for years to come. Congratulations, Ashlan, on an extraordinary high school career!
The future of Maȟpíya Lúta track and field is bright.
Our girls’ 4×100-meter relay team—sophomore Peyton Knife, freshmen Payton Vitalis and Kaimana Newbrough, and seventh grader Keegan Carlow—earned the opportunity to compete at the State Meet after an outstanding season. As one of the youngest relay teams to qualify for the State Meet, they gained invaluable experience competing on South Dakota’s biggest stage.
Although the relay team did not advance from the preliminary round, they ran with determination and represented Maȟpíya Lúta with pride. The experience they gained this season will serve as a strong foundation as they continue to grow stronger, faster, and more competitive in the years ahead.
Congratulations to Ashlan and our girls’ relay team on an outstanding season. Your commitment, perseverance, and sportsmanship have made the entire Maȟpíya Lúta community proud. We look forward to cheering you on in the seasons ahead.
